This weekend I photographed a wedding near Richmond, VA! Josh assisted me, so we decided to make a weekend trip of it! Sunday was a rare day off this time of year, so we wanted to make the most of it!
We drove to High Bridge State Park in Virginia. High Bridge itself is over a half mile long and 125 feet above the Appomattox River. It’s quite an impressive site. We read that the bridge is the longest recreational bridge in Virginia and among the longest in the United States. The valley is huge!
High Bridge Trail is over 31 miles long and perfect for walking, bicycling, and horseback riding! I was surprised that Josh didn’t suggest we walk the entire 31 miles. We chose to do a 7.2 mile walk round trip, from the Rice parking lot to across the bridge and back. I only wished I had a bike by the last two miles! haha.
We parked next to this abandoned store. I could only imagine it operating – it is so cute! And across the street the trail sign stated High Bridge was 3.1 miles.
Seeing the horses made me want to ride again. It’s been far too long!
High above the Appomattox River!
The old train trestles were still littered with wrought iron stakes and bits of track. It was very neat! (pic on the right)
