After having spent 9 (that’s right NINE) Valentine’s days with my husband, I would hardly call it a must that we spend the day together. I know that sounds mean, but it’s just never been a huge deal to me. So when my friend Stephanie of Stephanie Dee Photography called to ask if I would second shoot with her on Valentine’s day, I was over the moon excited! It’d been years since I’d second shot a wedding and it was a great experience. I loved shooting without the pressure – it gave me a chance to explore different angles and get shots I’d been wanting to try but never did for fear they wouldn’t work. Total creative flexibility. It was exactly what I needed to start 2014 weddings off right!
I met Stephanie downtown at D.C.’s Residence Inn where Heather & David were getting ready. Heather had a gorgeous penthouse suite and the light was amazing. I could have shot next to this window all day. When you’re planning a getting ready location, try to make sure it has a lot of natural light – trust me, you’ll love your photos as a result!
Heather & David a dog lovers, so they made sure their two pups – Rufus & Steel – were a big part of the day!
David was good to his groomsmen. Each received a custom set of cufflinks in these cool burlap bags – what a great idea!
And the Groom’s cufflinks – get it?!
David looking handsome & ready to see his bride!
I LOVED Heather’s shoes! They were so classic and beautiful.
We headed to D.C.’s Franciscan Monastery for portraits! The light was gorgeous, as was the couple!
Are you kidding me?! Stunning. . .
The JOY was contagious!
The black & white details really highlighted St. Francis Hall‘s beauty!
Heather’s bridesmaids carried lanterns rather than bouquets! So unique!
After the ceremony, everyone was ready to get the party started!
After toasts & first dances, the dance floor was rockin’ all night!
Check out their upside down cake!! Incredible. If this is a new trend for 2014, I will be thrilled. . .
They call it puppy love!
